1. Pretreatment (impurity removal)
Mixed cables may be mixed with impurities such as nails, stones, and mud. Some models are equipped with magnetic separation devices (permanent magnets or electromagnetics) or vibrating screens to separate metal/non-metallic impurities in advance to avoid damage to the equipment in subsequent links.

2. Crushing (coarse crushing + fine crushing)
The hardness of the insulation layer materials of mixed cables (such as hard PVC, soft rubber, and fiber) varies greatly, and they need to be completely crushed through multi-stage crushing:
- Coarse crushing: Double-shaft shear crusher (low blade speed and high torque) cuts thick wires (diameter > 10mm) into segments of about 50mm;
- Fine crushing: Single-shaft high-speed crusher (dense blade group and high speed) further crushes the segmented cables into particles of 2-8mm, so that the copper core and the insulation layer are completely separated.

The crushing chamber material needs to be strengthened (such as 304 stainless steel + wear-resistant coating) to deal with the winding wear of sticky or tough materials such as rubber and fiber.

3. Sorting
The non-metallic components of mixed cables are diverse (PVC density ≈1.4g/cm³, rubber ≈1.0g/cm³, fiber ≈1.5g/cm³), and the purity needs to be improved through a combination of multi-stage sorting:
First-stage sorting: Wind sorting (core): Using the density difference between copper (density ≈8.9g/cm³) and non-metal, a fan with adjustable air volume is used to blow away lightweight plastic/rubber particles and separate some fibers at the same time;
Second-stage sorting: Vibration screening: Through screens of different mesh sizes (such as 2mm, 4mm), copper particles and incompletely broken wire ends and insulation layer fragments are separated according to particle size;
Third-stage sorting (optional): Electrostatic sorting/specific gravity sorting: For tiny particles (<2mm) or impurities with similar density (such as tinned copper and pure copper), further purification is carried out through charge difference or specific gravity difference.
